APPENDIX · THE WORDS

Ten words that cover most of it.

Model
The AI program that guesses the next word (or pixel, or note).
Agent
A model given tools, so it can do several steps instead of only chatting.
MCP
A plug that lets a model use a tool (files, mail, a calendar) instead of only talking about it.
Token
A small piece of text. Prices and context limits are usually counted in tokens, not pages.
Weights
The trained numbers inside a model. Open weights can be downloaded; closed weights stay with the company.
API
A documented way for software to send a job to a model and get the result back.
SOTA
State of the art: the best measured result on a given test, on the day it was measured.
ARC-AGI
A public reasoning test made of small visual puzzles. It is designed so that memorising the training data does not help.
SDK
Software development kit: the set of ready-made pieces a company publishes so other programmers can build on its product.
WebGPU
A recent web standard that lets a page use the computer’s graphics card directly, for 3D scenes and for calculation.
Sources and verification method

Sources we monitor

85 distinct accounts across official labs, independent benchmarks, builders, and design publications. Official sources can establish what shipped; independent sources help test the claim. Unsourced reposts, content farms, ads disguised as news, and fake accounts are excluded.
